29. Sandra Easter
Just 3 months after birthing my first human I had enormous good luck. I went to a mother’s exercise class I found listed in the City Paper. It was held in a church rec room somewhere near Mt. Washington, and there I met Sandra Easter.
I was taken with her right away. She had a sassy and self-confident way about her. We got to talking, and exchanged phone numbers and that might have been that, but the next week Sandra didn’t show up, so I gave her a call.
She had an infection and couldn’t take the exercise class for a while. But she was feeling well enough to get together at her house, and so we did.
Her house was a cute little cottage on a great big farm in Monkton. And we hit it off immediately. New mothers can talk endlessly about new-mothering. And that’s what we did!
In fact we enjoyed it so much, we decided to get together the week after that, and the week after that, and we kept getting together for I-don’t-know-how-long.
And not once, ever, were we at a loss for something to talk about.
Being a stay-at-home mom was a lonely business. At least for me. There were no other mom’s in my neighborhood. So I think it’s safe to say Sandra Easter saved my life.
And I can’t imagine a more lively or interesting person to spend my time with. She was energetic, new agey, forthright, funny, irreverent, generous, and up for anything.
I sometimes think about that day we exchanged phone numbers and everything that came after. Meeting that sassy, irreverent friend lead to
My favorite job: When her husband hired me to help with his little startup called 4GL
So many great 4GL friends: Some of whom are right here on Facebook!
And my sister’s 25 year career as a life coach: When Sandra introduced her to USM
We never know the effect someone will have on our lives. But we know when we feel that spark of connection. So I say go for it!
Sandra and I lost touch when she moved to California, but I still revel in the the great good-fortune I had to be her friend for a few years in the 90’s.
