20. Mark at Crocker Farm

Today I was driving along York Road, out in the country, when I noticed a cool looking barn with the sign “Crocker Farm” out front. So I decided to pull in and see what it was all about.

There was a guy out front (that would be Mark) unloading some stuff, so I asked him what’s up with Crocker Farm.

He said it’s an auction house for American pottery.

Wow. Pretty cool. It was a gorgeous old barn that they used as their auction space and offices. Previously owned by a prominent wheat farmer who had it built with a wheat-like pattern for extra fanciness.

I told my new friend Mark that I worked as a runner in an auction house, that was also in a barn, when I was in high school in Ohio.

And he said: “Garth’s”

And he was right!

Of all the auction barns in all the towns in all the world, this guy knew about Garth’s. He went on to say, yeah, that was run by John Porter (Yes it was! He was the dad of my classmate and my boss at the auction) and now it’s run by one of his auctioneers, and Mark had never been there, but his father had visited once. How fun!

To me serendipity feels so joyful! Do you feel that way too?  Why is it so fun to make a connection?

I guess it reminds me that we are all connected after all. You are not really a stranger. The world is full of wonder and possibility.

What about you?
