44. Anna
Last month Anna and I got together at “The Cabin.” This is what we have always called it because it used to be an actual one-room cabin. Cement walls, a tin roof, no heat, no running water, and a big, beautiful lake.
When we were kids our family owned The Cabin with our friends the Muyskens, and somehow all 10 of us would manage to sleep in one room the size of a shoe box and have an astonishingly fun time.
These days The Cabin is a beautiful 3-bedroom house owned by the Muyskens and built on the location of the old cabin. And they generously let us use it.
So Anna and I were hanging out at The Cabin, and I mentioned that the couch drove me a little bit crazy because it faced the fireplace instead of the lake. I just felt kind of boxed in when I sat on it. Like my Fung wasn’t Shwaying.
So Anna, being Anna, said “let’s move it.”
That is the kind of energy that Anna brings to any situation. She acts like life is something to try. Like you can’t get it wrong. Like it’s a grand adventure.
This is such a refreshing energy to me.
I suspect part of it is the comfort of being with someone I have known so long. And part of it is the effort we have taken to create an honest relationship. And part of it is the way our energies seem to balance. She is the Yang to my Yin.
We can spend a whole weekend together and never stop talking. There is no trying or pleasing or striving.
Anna has a magnetism about her. An aliveness that brings out the possibilities in others. She seems to rejoice in their amazing themness.
So that is Anna. My sister, my friend, and my fellow traveler.
Anna is Comfort, Energy, Quirkiness, Joy, Eccentricity, Ease, Wisdom, Generosity, Abundance.
