3. Dr. Levy

The year Max was born I jumped into the slow lane and stayed home full time.  Here’s what happens in the slow lane, in case you are interested.  You never sleep, and you spend your whole day trying to find the time to shave your second leg, because somehow between feeding another person, and clothing them, and staring at them lovingly, there is no time left over.

Into this landscape fell an amazing person who was just the right mix of favorite uncle and wise man. Our pediatrician, Dr. Levy.

He had all the answers!

What do I do when Max won’t eat? What if he eats too much? What is that weird thing on his foot? Does it matter that he ate a cigarette he found in the park? Do you think he’ll ever learn to crawl?

Dr. Levy actually believed I was doing a fine and dandy job raising another human.

Why did I love him so much?  He made me feel like I was the only person he had to see that day.

I could show up in his office with my shirt on inside-out, yams in my hair, and bags under my eyes, and he would take it all in stride. Dr. Levy was calm, gentle, and supportive. He was genuinely curious about how we were all doing.

We would sit and visit. And I would gather information and gather confidence and head back in to life.
