26. Sweet Ride
Greg and I were passing through Reading, Pennsylvania and decided ice cream was needed!
We stepped into Sweet Ride and I knew it was one of those places. It looked charming from the outside and felt charming on the inside.
We were perusing the long list of flavors when one of the customers told us it was “Waffle Weekend!” Not being familiar with this concept, we asked for details, and they told us you can get ice cream on a waffle. Not a waffle cone, but an actual waffle. It can be a small sundae or a double sundae or an ice cream sandwich.
Being slightly cautious, but still feeling adventurous, we decided on the waffle sandwich which seemed manageable in size, but still kookie and fun.
I mean who wants to pass up on Waffle Weekend when they have the chance?
So what is a waffle sandwich you might ask? Well, it is two waffles with a scoop of ice cream in between. And a little powdered sugar on top, just in case you haven’t met your sugar quota for the day.
Greg decided (very unexpectedly) on the Graham Cracker flavored ice cream and I went with my tried and true mint, although it did have girl scout cookies instead of chocolate chips.
Why am I telling you all of this? Aside from the fact that you might want to make a delicious Waffle Sandwich, I was mostly taken with the vibe of the place.
Everyone was sweet and friendly and helpful in a “real” feeling way. Genuinely curious. Asking if we’d been there before, and where we were heading.
Part of this is the Greg-experience, that guy can make friends with a lamppost. But the other half was the Sweet-Ride-experience. They have darling little uniforms, and all seem excited about the flavors and quality of their ice cream, and the fact that you, of all people, just happened to walk in their doors.
They seemed to say:
-Hi
-I see you there, fellow human
-I’m glad you are passing my way
-It’s nice to make your acquaintance
Reminding me that we really all want the same thing.
To be happy and healthy and loved.
And maybe to eat ice cream
