17. The MVA Lady

Today I went to the MVA to get my Real ID!

I put on Real clothes and Real eyeliner, and I even combed my Real hair!

I got number B-82, and when I took my seat they called number B-54. I thought my best option was probably to curl up in a ball and cry. But as I watched the numbers go by I saw J-123,  C-42, C-43, T-845. And after a mere 20 minutes B-82.

I have no idea what was going on over there or where these numbers were coming from. Some sort of MVA top-secret random number generator. But I will admit a twenty-minute wait at the MVA is like a minor miracle. So, I am grateful for that! And once they took my picture, they actually let me look at it and decide if I wanted to take it again. Wow! It’s a kinder, gentler MVA.

But what I really want to focus on is the woman outside the MVA greeting everyone. She was taking temperatures, checking appointments, answering questions.

There were people coming at her from all directions with all kinds of crazy requests,  like “I don't have an appointment” and “I was already inside, can I just go back in” and “I need help with my paperwork.”

She was just fielding them all. To her, everyone was “baby” or “sweetheart” or “darling”. And I got to be “love!” As in: “Hello love, what are you here for today?”

I really, really, really, really love it when someone doing a so-called menial job puts their heart and soul into it. Proving that if you decide something has meaning, then it has meaning!

When I commented on her helpful friendliness, she said “Well, I guess I'm just a people person.”

Would that we were all people persons.

Persons who care about people.
