Sing your song
The little boy on the bridge looked up at me earnestly as said “If you sing your ABC’s the train will come!”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was on the last leg of my walk, crossing the train bridge back to my neighborhood, and he was there with his grandparents on the bridge. Three years old and perfectly adorable!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Standing on the bridge when a train comes is one of my favorite things too! The train passes right under you and your whole body, whole bridge, whole world vibrates along with the power of that engine.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I knew why that little boy was standing there. But I was confused about the ABC’s. I had never tried that method.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As he stood on the bridge singing his little heart out, his grandmother explained that last time they were on the bridge, and he sang the ABC song, and the train came.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
OMG! How many times have I done that? Linking two things that have no business being linked! Out of fear or excitement or habit.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the going gets tough it’s time to Get Curious. Usually when I’m upset or angry or hurt it’s because I’ve linked two things together.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They cut me off and that means they don’t care about me
They are upset and that means I did it wrong
They are ignoring me and that means I’m boring
Where am I singing my little heart out and expecting a train? What if I just sang? From my heart? And let that be enough? Train or no train.
